Philips Electronics India Ltd., with its latest invention, has gained an entry in to the home health care market in India. It has recently launched the Philips Respironics product, that helps in obstructive sleep apnea management and home respiratory care. The introduction of Respironics’ non-invasive ventilation and respiratory monitoring products for hospitals and clinics is said to have fortified Philips’ ‘in-hospital’ position.
Post the global acquisition of Respironics in 2008, India is said to be the first country where the formal launch of Philips Respironics portfolio has taken place. This appears to highlight the company’s focus to create market leadership in emerging high-growth markets like China and India. An annual growth of about 15 percent is estimated in the home health care market in India. By 2013, Philips is believed to be strategizing to gain a market share of about 40 percent in this market.

Philips Respironics is believed to be a world leader in the treatment of a condition called the Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This condition is characterized by the recurring cessation of breathing during sleep. Across Asia, the occurrence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is believed to be relatively high in certain parts of the population. An increase in such cases of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is said to occur partly due to a sedentary lifestyle.
