10Olive oil –

Despite being an oil, it is the best option to help to battle diabetes, keep cholesterol in check and protect your heart. Read the label on your bottle to see that the olives are from Italy, and processed and bottled in the same country. Else you risk buying it adulterated with other oils. Additionally, olive oil has low tolerance to heat and should not be used for cooking. It mainly consists of unsaturated fats and is reported to fight high triglyceride levels in the body.

Please note that the above foods should be consumed in their most natural form. Canned produce, pickles, sauces, multi-grain goods which are not made out of whole grains, juices and some types of supplements do a bad job of controlling elevated blood sugar levels. Stress, lack of sleep and sedentary lifestyles also impact people with diabetes or those who are predisposed to it. A healthy balance is key!
