8Grapefruit –
Grapefruit is high in glutathione which works against heart disease and reduces the risk of stroke. A study by the University of California discovered that grapefruit juice lowered blood sugar as effectively as metformin, a drug prescribed to people with type 2 diabetes. The research was conducted on laboratory mice, not humans. So while it may not be able to work as well as your medication, it does enhance insulin sensitivity, while bundling in high levels of vitamin A, fiber and vitamin C.
Fatty fish –
Salmon is dripping with healthy Omega 3 fatty acids which protects against heart disease. Being high in protein, it fills you up and could stop you from eating too much carbohydrates instead. If you’re worried about toxins in fish, wild salmon is your best option. Other fatty fish types which are good for you include cod, tuna, salmon, sardine and trout. Species like swordfish, shark and king mackerel tend to have suspicious amounts of mercury and should be avoided, especially by pregnant or lactating women.
