3Cheese, Butter and Mayo
How could we ever have a pizza or burger without cheese and mayo? If you seem to be asking yourself this frequently then better be ready to welcome whopping amounts of cholesterol in your blood. But all cheese varieties are not especially bad. Butter, margarine made from hydrogenated oil and ghee (clarified butter) is good in very limited amounts only.
Hydrogenation is the popular chemical process in which hydrogen is added to liquid oils to make them last longer. It turns oils into more solid form. The more solid the margarine is, the more likely it is to contain harmful fats. Run and hide from mayonnaise made with hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils too.
Ice Cream
Ice cream is high in cholesterol, saturated fats and trans fats. Eating this dessert everyday can raise blood cholesterol levels and put you at risk of heart disease. One average-sized cup of ice cream is calculated to contain your entire day’s ration of cholesterol. And the amount sugar generally mixed into it adds to its shady reputation.
Experts recommend having a fruit salad instead, since apart from being low in cholesterol, it also contains essential daily nutrients. You could also pick a low-fat yogurt smoothie blended with your favorite fruit and a handful of berries. Another way to satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way would be to snack on a square of dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa.
